Some Notes on Fundraising

Hello Athletes, and Happy Valentine's Day!

I can't think of a more fitting holiday for Run Team Kina than V-Day.  I mean, beyond having Miss Valentine herself as our trusted team captain and a big ol' red heart as our logo, we are also all united by our love for one another and our dedication to helping others.  This year, you are all my Valentine (if you'll have me)!

As you probably know, Kina and many RTK-ers will embark on a 10-week fundraising campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, starting this Thursday at 12:01pm (PST).  If you'd like to participate, Kina's written up a very easy-to-follow primer on fundraising HERE , complete with the option of setting up your own RTK/LLS fundraising webpage for digital donations.

We also recognize that many of your plans for fundraising may bring you in contact with more cash and check donations than online credit card donations.  With that in mind, here are a few forms to help you keep track of donations:

  1. RTK Fundraising List - This blank chart will help you keep track of your donors, their information, and the donations you've collected.
  2. Tax-Receipt Donation Form - Be sure to ask your donors if they want a tax receipt from the LLS (this is often the case with adults, and/or large donations).  If so, please have him or her fill out one of these forms (It only takes a second!).  One form per donor.
  3. Donation Information - If a donor asks where his or her donation goes, here is a simple, handy list of a few of the LLS's services.

Certain types of fundraisers don't require you keeping diligent, detailed records of your donors' tax information.  For example, if you're trading goods or services for money (like in a bake sale, or hosting a music show, or walking your neighbor's dog), you don't need to collect anyone's personal information because, in these situations, YOU'RE the donor, donating your time and the money you earned from your event.  In that case, please send YOUR information to the LLS for a tax receipt.  I realize this can be confusing stuff, so if you have any questions, you can email 'em to me at rtkfundraising@gmail.com

Also, please do not send any donations to Kina or RTK.  All donations should be sent directly to the LLS, either through the donation webpages , or in the mail:

I'm very proud to say that Run Team Kina has zero operating expenses.  That means that every penny of every dollar raised by RTK goes to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and helps in their mission to support blood cancer patience and help find a cure.  Thanks for being a part of this wonderful cause.

Oh, and if you're looking for a last-minute Valentine's gift (and don't mind waiting a week to receive it), how about sending your special someone an RTK running shirt?!

Happy Trails,

Coach Abel
